This is the largest piece I’ve done to date. It’s a complex composition with turned and carved elements. The area behind the holes is hollow so it adds to the sense of mystery surrounding the figured maple vessel. Painted brass pins separate and support the natural wood vessel. The deep blue finial is held on with magnets so it can be reomoved for shipping. The support is ebonized poplar and as such is designed to emphasize the prominence of the vessel itself. Pierced elements and texturing work to provide visual interest and complexity. The details photo showcases the split bowl technique I used to create this sculpture.
