This piece was selected as the winner of the American Association of Woodturners January 2011 contest for suspended forms. It can be seen on page 13 of the April 2011 issue.
For some reason the song “Proud Mary” kept going through my head while I was making this piece, so I decided to name it that. All that rollin’ I guess.
The back side is essentially the same as the front. The area behind the inner ring is open to the other side so you can see the pierced pattern through the opening.
The area behind the outer ring is a recess cut into the body of the piece and painted black.
